FestArchives...
IndiaFEST 2006 was the third annual South Florida Indian Cultural festival. This event is organized by the Palm Beach India Association (PBIA), a Non-Profit Organization. This event was held on Saturday, February 25th, 2006, from 10:00am to 9:00pm.

3 11:13am THODAYAM  (Classical dance from Tamil-Nadu)
This is a classical form of Bharatanatym it is in a saraswathi vandana style and is usually presented during the first half of a classical dance recital.

4 11:25am MALAYALAM DANCE (Traditional dance from Kerala)
This item rendered by the renowned singer Padmashree Yesudas celebrates the Onam season in Kerala. During Onam women adorn themselves in new clothes and jewelry and get together at dusk to perform a group dance. They dance in a circle in front of a lit lamp which symbolizes prosperity. This item is noted for it's swinging movements reminiscent of Palm trees. The laughter of young, pretty women, accompanied by the sounds of clapping hands and the jingle of bangles, come together with rhythmic music celebrate the season of Onam.

5 11:45am GROUP TABLA: CLASSICAL & LIGHT MUSIC

This is performance by Tabla Guru, Sandeep Munshi's Students, it is composed of Classical as well as Light Classical Indian Music.

8 12:10pm HARMONIUM (Musical instruments)

Harmonium - a type of Piano/accordion mix, used in Classical Indian music. It is placed on the floor and air is pumped into it by one hand, while the other plays the melody.
This will be accompanied by Tabla.

Dismantle Classical music mics and clear the stage. Also set up for the Yoga item.
9 12:40pm YOGA DEMO

The PremYoga and Wellness Center has created a sangha to enchant and inspire you through devotional chanting and yoga from the heart.  Health and harmony of body, mind and spirit is possible for us all.
All of the Yoga Asana's will be accompanied by live classical Indian music.
This will be accompanied by Tabla.

10 1:10pm FASHION SHOW

This show will display different types of Indian Fashion from the different regions of India. India is a diverse country with each state having a different language, food, and clothing. Here you will get a small taste of the different fashions India has to offer.

12 2:35pm WEDDING DEMONSTRATION (Wedding style from the state of Gujarat)
Wedding styles differ depending on the region of India. This Wedding demonstration will display a typical Indian Gujarati Wedding. There are many rites and rituals during a wedding, it can be as complex as it is beautiful to watch.

13 3:20pm FOLK DANCE OF RAJASTHAN  (Folk dance from Rajasthan)
A blend of different traditional Rageshthani Folk Dances consisting of Classical Folk, Ghumar (A dance where the dancer is constantly spinning an earthern pot on their head), and Tera Tali (a dance that is performed with symbols, and balancing a pot on the dancer's head).

14 3:35pm MADHURA MADHURA (Classical dance from Tamil-Nadu)

This Bharatanatyam is derived from Uttukkadu Venkatakavi's composition and set to Raagam Athana and Adi Taala.
It is performed in a rare blend of both "Vazhuvoor" and
"Pandanallur" styles which hail from the Tanjavur District of Tamil Nadu.

This item is derived from the Poet Jayadeva's work "Geeta Govinda". This dance will show Lord Krishna with the Gopikas dancing and playing in nature with each other.

23 5:45pm DHEEM TA DA RE (Different dance styles from parts of India)

This item is a purely classical piece, where the dancers incorporate various forms of classical and folk dance styles from India. There are aspects of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi from South India, Kathak from North India, and various folk dances from all.

24 5:55pm DHOLIDA DHOL RE VAGAD MARE HINCH LEVI CHHE  (Folk dance from the state of Gujarat)

This is a Gujarati Folk Dance performed by the Payaliya's of South Florida. It describes the feeling of young girls and newly married women. They sing the garba with the dholi's sound to express their feeling and enthusiasm of life.
